Understanding League One
A total of 24 clubs compete in League One each season, which runs from August to the following May. Just like the other professional football leagues in England, each club plays all the others twice, both home and away. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a loss.
At the end of each season, three clubs are promoted from League One to the EFL Championship. The top two teams are automatically promoted, plus a third team goes up through the playoffs. The four clubs that finished third to sixth enter into the two-round playoffs, with a semi-final and then a final to determine the winner. Just as three teams are promoted to the Championship, the three clubs that finished bottom of the Championship are relegated to League One.
The four teams that finished at the bottom of League One are relegated to League Two each season, whilst four teams are promoted from League Two to League One.
The EFL League One sees plenty of movement over the seasons, with once top-flight clubs sometimes dropping down to League One after spells in the Championship. You’ll also see teams on the rise being promoted from League Two. But there is a handful of clubs that are League One stalwarts, like Peterborough United, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury Town and Leyton Orient.
Types of League One bets

● Over/Under bet: Place a bet on whether the total goals will be over or under a certain number in a game. Examples include whether the home team’s goals will be under or over 1.5 or whether the total goals scored in a match will be over or under 3.5.
● Both teams to score (BTTS): Place a wager on both teams scoring in a League One match.
● Correct score: Place a wager on the final score of a League One game.
● First/anytime goalscorer: Make a bet on who’ll score first in a match, or whether a player will score at any point during a game.
● Outright winner: Place an outright bet on which club will top the table and win the League One championship.
● Promotion/relegation: Make an outright bet on which clubs will be promoted to the EFL Championship and which will be relegated to League Two.

When it comes to picking a winning side in any League One match, you should pay close attention to:
● Team performance and recent form: Look at each team’s current league position and their recent run of form. An underdog that’s on a winning streak may be more likely to cause an upset.
● Past matchups: Some clubs perennially underperform against certain teams, whilst others often pull off a win.
● Player statistics and injuries: In-form players can sway match results, whilst injuries to key squad members can have a big impact on a team’s performance.
● Home and away advantage: Many clubs enjoy strong home records and will be more likely to win playing at their home ground. However, some clubs occasionally have seasons where they play better away.
● Managerial changes: A change in manager can often bring a temporary boost in club performance, but this can falter after the initial honeymoon period ends. The current confidence in a club’s manager will have a big impact on a team’s performance.
● League position and motivation: Especially as the season draws to a close, clubs at the top and the bottom of the table may be more strongly motivated to win than those in the mid-table, as they fight for promotion or to avoid relegation. Conversely, we’ve all seen clubs in the relegation places lose their heart and effectively give up, becoming easy wins for higher-placed teams.
